Hello!

I'm in the planning stage of building a tank stand for a 65 gallon tank (36"L x 18"W x 24"H).

I'm having some trouble planning the inside layout and the skeleton and how it all fits together.

I want to have two drawers and two doors, does anybody have a stand like this?

Would you mind posting pictures of your tank stands (especially the insides) so I can get an idea of different arrangements?

I've gone to petstores and looked in stands but most of them seem very bare on the inside.

Does anyone have any suggestions for stands?

Thanks very much in advance!

Hil

Ps: Does it matter if the tanks edges don't line up with the 2x4 skeleton?

I made one if you check out the diy section for "Built In Tank Stand for my cichlids." I used three Ikea cabinets with 2X4 framing around them, you could easilt make this any size to want and covre it with a hard wood, mine is going to be built into the basement wall and wont require sides, or a back... also check this out its from another site but still cool.

Frame it with 2X4's and face it with furniture grade plywood, use trim to cover the but ends. I think I have pics of my plan in my sig still...yep. For drawers, a few extra pieces to frame in the opening and provide support for the slides is all you'd need at the top of the door openings.

Good luck!

Put the drawers on the bottom. It's easier to look down into drawers to see the contents than to crawl on the floor to see what's on the bottom shelf. Maybe set the drawers on a slight angle with a drain hole in case water gets into them.

Thats a great idea!
I think I'll still have the drawers on the top (to make the fish food easy to get at). I'll definately have to add a drain and maybe I'll try to slant them slightly. I also plan to have a spot to keep a couple towels:). I was going to have my filter on the bottom on one side and buckets on the other, so i shouldn't have to crawl on the floor too often. Maybe I'll try to stay away from shelves on the inside too...

Beviking, those pictures helped a lot your stand looks very similar to what i want mine to look like.

Thanks!

Hilary

here is the frame I built for my 300. I interlaced the 2x4s and used 1/2" Birch plywood for lateral support. If you look closely you can see how the boards are interlaced.

OT, but does that tank not have a bottom frame?

Thanks Hilary!

I would think about using drawers, and the height of the equipment, and the cords and hoses, and what you might possibly want to do in the future. A larger canister filter (Filstar XP3, Eheim 2028, Fluval 305) with hoses attached may be cramped in a stand with drawers. Any thoughts of injecting CO2? The tank with a regulator is something to think about also.
You might consider ways of hanging things on the inside of the door or removable baskets instead. Just an idea :)
