DIY Wet Dry

sure it is kidna small, BUT i am going to do it anyway, not only will i get GREAT filtration but it is very easy to make a bigger wet dry for a new tank when i get one

it is going to be on a 10 gallon tank, the sump tank is going to be 5 gallon. the overflow box is going to be 5" wide. the shpoin will be 5" wide and 0.5" space. This will give me a VERY large flow. BUT, when i get a bigger tank this willl be GREAT. i knowi this is over kill for evena 35 gallon or even 50 gallon, BUT it is something to do, and i love building things.

What do plan to do for returns? Are you going the spray bar route or directional returns?

On another note, I would set up a wet-dry on a 1 gal if I could. IMHO, wet-drys are by far the best filters anyone could have. They aren't too great at getting large particulate matter (if you only have HOB overflow), but the gas exchange capacity is incredible! My setups always include some sort of trickle filter, whether it be a DIY or a store bought setup.

Hey, I don't know what kind of stand and setup you are going to be using, but keep in mind that there's nothing wrong with using a larger sump than tank. This will help keep things extra clean as long as you stock appropriately in the 10. If price is really the only factor, then you could get a 20 or 30 gallon Rubbermaid real cheap!

looks good. Almost exactly the same as the one i use exepte thet the strainer/inside box on mine is made of black acrylic. Be sure to check the U-tube for air bubbles often. As you wont be turning a large amount of water it might collect air in the U-Tube. If so you can move to a smaller tube which will keep air from collecting. Or move to a larger return pump the pleco will enjoy the extra flow. Pleco's tend to be from fast flowing streams.
