Do Bolivian Rams eat??

Mine have trouble feeding from the surface since they are natuarally "bottom dwellers" and the danios are too quick but they go nuts over the sinking pellets I put in mainly for the cories...

Same here. I use New Life Spectrum but the majority is gobbled by my tetras before it hits the bottom. My GBR will forage afterwards and grab the remainder but will also munch on the larger sinking pellets with my cories. Same goes for my checkerboard cichlids (dicrossus filamentosus) actually. Just slower eaters by nature, I suppose.

I'm sorry yours are not doing well, bk. =(

I just got bolivian rams on Saturday and I'm cofused about their eating habits!! I've fed them a couple of kinds of flakes as well as the weekly treat of frozen shrimp and bloodworms.

The rams picked at a few things that floated down to them, but never seemed to be very excited feeding time. Typically, I've seen them foraging around later after feeding.

Are rams always this ambivalent about eating? Any suggestions on what they like?

ive never had this problem.... hmm maybe a blemic fish? naaa

typically they are pigs but prefer to feed on the bottom.

mine always wait for the sinking pellets to sink. they will fight for them once they are on the bottom.

one thing you can do..feed the fast eaters on one side of the tank..then drop the pellets(sinking) in a different spot. away from the fast eaters.

My male is a pig. He eats flakes and granules and also loves my plecos algae wafers. He'll pick up a wafer and eat the whole thing, he never drops it. It's weird he just keeps biting it over and over til it's gone.

I was having the same problem. But I have a very heavily planted tank and assumed they may be foraging off of those. I wasn't too worried about it just yet. They're still very new. I did discover my german rams absolutely loved the frozen Cichlid Delight I found at Petsmart. The brine shrimp melted out of the cube and floated towards the bottom and they foraged off of that. The bolivians nibbled but not quite like the german golds.

I usually toss in an extra cube of shrimp just for that purpose. It sinks and I hope the bolivans find it eventually. So far my water has maintained optimal levels so nothing is decaying and throwing things off. So the cube is definitely being consumed by somebody.

lace their food with cocaine, jk I don't know.

My dwarfs don't get excited about eating either, I have been seeing them eat a little bit lately though.
