I have a chineze algae eater in my discus tank and ive noticed that some of my plants are getting destroyed, do they eat plants or just algae... any help would be greatly appreciated...
They are below average algae eaters when young. When they get older they scavenge fish food and get quite aggressive. I really don't think it will be good for your discus to keep it in there.
I believe that as a CAE ages it will start eating plants and will really eventually ignore algae as a food sourse altogether. SAE would make a more permanent solution as an algae eating fish. Otocinclus are also wonderful algae eating fish should you be able to find a healthy supply of them.
