do Dojo Loaches have scales?

Most loaches are considered scaleless, dojo's included.

Best approach is to quarantine new fish to prevent an infection in the main tank, and monitor water quality closely. Feed an appropriate variety, follow a regular maintenance schedule, ect. Prevention is always best.

If your main tank becomes infected, you'll need to make a decision. If possible, remove the ailing fish and treat in a separate tank, appropriately for the species. If you can't do this, then you will have to treat at a half dose (most instructions will include this info). This means you'll be treating longer periods of time, so you'll want to monitor the tank and fish closely. Some medications will hinder your bio-filter, and longer treatment periods increase the odds of a mini-cycle.

Oriongirl: I tend to disagree with you. There are several companies that make medication that is acceptable to the scaleless fish. Ich as one example. The cost of this medication is higher..however, it is perfectly safe for scaleless fish....check the medication..it will say if it is good for scaleless fish..if it doesnt say anything......then dont use it....Only when it says "can be used with scaleless fish"

One more thing. Loaches is scaleless fish...HOWEVER...that does not mean they dont have scales..they do in fact.... Just VERY small scales...

So where exactly are you disagreeing with me? I never said all medications were unsafe, just that the directions should be followed regarding treating with 'scaleless' fish.

I cured a 20g community tank with rid ich, my four kuhli loaches are healthy as ever, and it's been about 1.5 months since the breakout
