Do fish (pleco) see the color red?

I was browsing my favorite aquarium supply catalog when i saw they had LED "moon" lights for aquariums. I know they are ussually used for saltwater reef tanks, but they had red ones too. My thought was to use them in my fresh water tank so i could observe my Noctornal fish easier.

ANYONE EVER TRY THIS? Would it work or would the fish still see the light and not be very active?

I used to point a lazer pointer at the gravel and decor and my betta would flare at it. So yea I think they can see red.

Well, the old "Daredevil" fishing lure was red and white; was always a great fish catcher for me!

Ah yes I have always had success with lures that are red/have red on them.

Darn, there goes that idea. Makes sense. Back to the old drwaing board i guess

Dont give up quite yet. spectrum is not the only thing to worry about. even a very low wattage white light will allow you to view fish at night. pick a red or blue or something tame like that and you will be fine.

These were the lights i was looking at. maybe like, 2-3 of em, just to add a little light at night. Prolly get a timer to switch between the day lights and night lights.

I've heard of people using black lights to observe nocturnals, if that suits your fancy.
