Do I have enuff lighting for liverock?

Since we're talking lighting here, thought I'd throw this out there ... do all MH lights need to be suspended from the ceiling? The reason I ask is that I'm currently living in an apartment where I'm not entirely positive I can drill into the ceilings.

Mine are in my canopy. I keep the bulbs about 12" off the water surface.

no they are MH Retrofit kits that are ment to be used inside a cannopy. I will be putting mine 12" from the surface of the water.

When you say tree like do you mean a Kenya Tree or an SPS with the brightly colored bodies that look like colorful branches or twigs to some?

I'm not quite sure - It is hubby's (sicklidfan) tank. He said that he wanted the coral that look like trees on the top and that he wanted it to look like a mountain with trees on top and bush and flower looking corals down the slopes... He has a very artistic eye. I'm sure it will look great when he is done

The SPS have much higher lighting needs than a softie like a Kenya tree will. You'll want to know which you're intending to stock before making a decision.
