i have a 90g tank with enough filtration for a 300 g tank. i mean i want some in there but do i really need to get the suggested 1# per 1 g of water?? please let me know

No, if you know you have enough other filtration to take up the slack then you don't need to have that much rock.. it just helps. People that do FOWLR tanks usually don't have sumps/refugiums or even HOB filters.. they just use the rock for filtration and a skimmer. That is where the 1-2# per gallon comes from.

But let me say, if you have a filter that states it is rated for up to 300G.. cut that in 1/3 just to be realistic about it. IMO you need quite a bit of "alternative" filtration to make up for less rock. ie, a 29-55G sump/fuge and good skimmer. Canister and HOB filters don't do nearly as good of a job as a sump/fuge.
