Do monos need brackish water?

What's the consensus out there?
Mine is now my favourite fish in the tank.

From what I read they can be kept in freshwater when young and gradually turn the water to brackish as they grow older and then to full saltwater when they are adults.

As is300zx has already indicated, FW when young, then brackish then full marine as adults.

Kept any other way and they will most likely die at an early age.

They are also schooling fish and need to be in groups of six or more.

Oh man, I guess he's gonna have to go back to the store in a few months.
Really don't want to have a 2nd tank anytime soon.

The are also rather fiesty fish as they mature, soecies tanks are best.
