Do most LFS have a no-dead policy?

Good to know. Darn, this was my first purchase from this place. I hope I can get something, at least a discount. All the other fish are happily swimming around the tank so I doubt it was something I did. I think the dead fish was the one that was a bit...slow when I put it in the tank. Wish me luck. Gonna head there in a few.

Good luck! Let us know how it turns out.

I remember forgetting about a dead fish which I had packed in my briefcase...was an interesting moment.

 How long had you forgotten it?

I remeber I left a dead guppy in an open ziploc bag on top of the fridge where it gets warm over 3 days. Let's just say I finally found out where that gross smell was coming from. :lipssealedsmilie:

Jeebus that must have stank. A long time ago, I had crayfish that escaped the tank, never to be found again. When we moved out of that home, we found one under the fridge and one under the range. Oddly, we never smelled anything.

As for my OP: I got lucky this time around. The store has no guarantees but the owner said he's "letting it slide this time" and gave me a free replacement.

Let's say I'll be a regular customer there from now on for the more run of the mill items.

Very cool, glad you got a replacement. Be sure to reward them with your business in the future.

OT- When I was around 12, I had an uncovered tank with a fire bellied newt in it. It disappeared completely one day. Years later when we moved, I found a perfectly intact skeleton under my bed. Never smelled either.
