online plant buyers beware!
don't order anything from floridadriftwood.com, you'll never get it.
I placed an order on sept 5th, on sept 22nd I still hadn't heard anything from them (the site says that you should have the order within a week), I called them to see what was up and they said that the order was messed up because of the hurricane and that it would be shipped out the following monday. well as of today, still no plants or communication (even after I've sent them numerous emails). finally had to call them long distance to cancel the order. the only plus side to this is they never charged me.

watch out!

I second that. Don't buy from them. I bought from them and was suppose to get 1" square mats of dwarf hair grass, they sent me about .25-.5'' clumps. Most was dead as well, and took them 2 weeks to get it to me.

I had a similar problem. I ordered some plants, but didn't hear anything for about 3 weeks. I emailed them a number of times and they finally responded after I said that I just wanted my ordered canceled. I told them to just cancel the whole thing. Then I ordered the same plants from another place and got them within the week. A couple of days later, I got a package from floridadriftwood containing the plants I had originally ordered, but canceled. So I checked my credit card and they had charged me after I told them to cancel the order. I wrote a few irate emails and called a couple of times (no one picked up) and left messages. Nothing. I still don't have my money back. So don't order from them. They're just bad news in my opinion.

I tell that story to anyone who will listen. They should be avoided at all cost, there are some much better places to pick up plants online.

They didn't used to be that bad. Even as recently as a year ago, I successfully ordered and received plants from FloridaDriftwood. I wonder what happened?

I'm not sure I have the right place pegged here, but isn't this the one run by an older couple? They seem to bounce off the upper level of output that they can sustain with poor service when they get more than they can handle.

I understand it is a side hobby for them and as good as some reports of them are they should have grown in sales if their service was consistent. Unless they got more help it can't grow beyond a cirtain point.

the thing that really pi$$ed me off about them was the complete lack of customer service. they seem more than willing to take your money, but couldn't be bothered to keep me informed about the order status, or reply to emails/voicemails. or just outright lying to me over the phone

A word to the wise.
Be very careful how you word things of a negative venue when referring to retail sites.
People have been sued when reporting problems with sites. The sites felt as if they had been 'defamed'.
I think the general public needs to be informed about our experiences, good and not so good, with some suppliers.
I just want you to be careful how you word your posts.

just trying to spread the word so that others don't have to go through what I went through. same principal as feedback on ebay or reporting to the BBB. If I find a good site for products/images/articles/etc.. I'll post them as being good.

A Rant.....

Last I heard "Free Speech" was still more than legal in North America (Even in the ‘new’ not so free US of A.) Stating a FACTUAL experience you had is not defamation. If you made up something like ABC plant co takes orphan children and grinds them up for fertilizer, and this noticeably effected their sales, then yes I would say you went too far, but simply stating that someone gave you crappy service in my (not so expert) opinion is totally safe, and if the Co in question doesn’t like it then perhaps they should try improving CS, instead of going on fishing expeditions for frivolous law suits....

Also from my understanding of defamation law, specifically on the internet:

In order for someone to successfully sue you they would first have to identify who the heck you are, IE subpoena Aquaria central for IP info, then subpoena your ISP (both of which would be a royal Pain in the A**,) They would then have to get you into court, which would be a VERY large cost,( I don’t exactly think that online aquarium plant sales industry is contributing much to the GDP -Read they don’t exactly have thousands of $$ to through around arbitrarily) THEN! HA! they would have to prove a case against you somehow defeating such points of law as "Qualified Privilege" and some how proving that your postings were a direct result of Malice. THEN! they would have to prove that you caused them a measurable monetary loss. And on top of all that fun kit, they would have to get in line with the rest of the US legal community to see weather or not you (poster on a forum) have the legal protection of a Journalist.....

Not to mention isn’t the point of suing someone to collect damages? Last I checked I spent all my money on my tank J, cant draw blood from a stone as they say….

- Anywho that’s my $0.003125

I could very well be talking out of an orifice other than my mouth so you may not want to believe a word I say… but if you do and I misled you…. SUE ME! No, really, give it a shot… it would be fun!!!!
