I have purchased 2 ramshorn snails and put them into my newly setup planted fry tank.

The 3 Gallon tank has 2 small java fern and java moss. The tank only has cherry shrimp now but I plant to use it for fry tank in the future.

I understand apple snail produce infusoria. But I wonder whether ramshorn snail can serve the same purpose?

My plan is to grow ramshorn into hundreds in the 3 gallon tank, and transfer swimming white cloud fry immediately from spawn tank. White cloud fry can then eat infusoria produced by ramshorn snail in the same tank.

Will this plan work?

prob not. wouldnt be enough anyway.

Why don't you get yourself an apple snail I think 3 gallons is the requirement for keeping 1...?

why not make it by soaking a lettuce leaf in a mason jar???

You "purchased" ramshorns? Where in the world did you pay for ramshorns?

I was told by LFS (Connecticut) that apple snails are illegal here. They sell ramshorn snail, red type , pretty cute. $1.25 per snail, not very cheap here.

Always fond of snails. Got ramshorn snails before years ago from plants, but all were eaten (or starved) by fish.

Now i have shrimp tank, seriously thinking of growing snails now.

I am not sure whether I can get this legally. I was told by a local shop manager (in Connecticut) that apple snails are illegal here.

Sploke is in Connecticut, check with him. I know I have talked snails with him before.

IDK you'd have to contact your local office but I think that the Golden Apple Snail, Pomacea canaliculata is illegal but thought that the Pomacea Bridgesii was legal in most states except for places like FL and HI...don't quote me but I am pretty sure that was how I understood it.

Check out this thread it's broken down by state http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=111527
