Do ramshorn snails produce infusoria for fry?

I don't know about you guys. But it's illegal to sell apple snails in Kentucky. I haven't had an apple snail for about 4 years now.

IDK you'd have to contact your local office but I think that the Golden Apple Snail, Pomacea canaliculata is illegal but thought that the Pomacea Bridgesii was legal in most states except for places like FL and HI...don't quote me but I am pretty sure that was how I understood it.

Check out this thread it's broken down by state http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=111527
Pomacea diffusa/bridgesii should be legal.

What species were yours? Only the Pomacea diffusa are legalized by the USDA for shipping without permits. Mystery snails are all apple snails but not all apple snails are mystery snails.

I saw this P. bridgesii for sale in aquabids from time to time. Does this snail work for infusoria for fry tank?

I could not buy any kind of apple snail here locally. But I might just buy them from Internet.

They sell ramshorn snail, red type , pretty cute. $1.25 per snail, not very cheap here.

:eek3: Next time you want ramshorns, post in the classifieds here. You can probably get a pile of 'em just for the cost of shipping.

Be careful where you buy your snails. Make sure the seller doesn't sell illegal species such as Marisa cornuarietis, Asolene spixi, etc nor mistake the particular species for canas, haustrums, etc. The USDA authorities will make sure to trace all the buyers based on their records and confiscate your snails if found illegal although mystery snails are legal so these ones are unlikely to be destroyed.

Never mind.

Just found that 2 ramshorn died out of blue. The flesh were out, loose, and staid at same postion for whole day. Took them out of water, touch them, still loose with the flesh outside the shell.

They were pretty active on the first day I put them in the tanks (purchased on Sunday, just 3 days ago).

It seems that growing snails are harder than growing fish or cherry shrimp.

My cherry shrimps lives happily in the same tank that 2 rams died. Very frustrating experiences.

Just update.

I grew green water successfully with 7 ramshorn snail in 3 gallon tank. It worked, and the tank became thick green water and tons of snails.

The white cloud fish fry successfully fed on green water for about 3 weeks so far, and are still growing.

ramshorn snail, plus green peas daily feed, is excellent and easy approach for green water, no smell, easy to do.
