Do shrimp add to the bioload or reduce it?

I am starting to think I wasted my money on these shrimp. I can never find them. :-) I did find them today, I had to move a rock decoration and they were hiding under there.

the easy way to figure this out would be to set up 2 10 gallon tanks. in each, place 6 or 8 small fish. no plants, just substrate fish and filter. in one tank, add 20 dwarf shrimp. feed both tanks exactly the same amount. use identical filters on both.

by taking amonia measurements, you should be able to quickly see an impact.

That's part of the fun with shimp. Company always starts looking for the shrimp...ignoring the fish!

I love shrimps myself. Always entertaining for the kids (and me) to look for them. It has sort of became a daily ritual.

yes, they should. Perhaps i am not reading through the post thoroughly enough to see what the inhabitants are? I have shrimp with gourami and barbs..once they reach adult size they are visible, before then they hide in any plants (mostly the moss).

They are full grown, I just purchased them a couple of days ago. They have been hiding under one of the decorations that is hollow on the bottom. Today I dug it into the gravel so they couldn't get in there anymore. I don't want them to get trapped in there and die without me knowing. May sound like a dumb question but what do you guys feed them?
