I have a blue mystery snail in a 5 gallon with my betta. My snail is rather inactive and seems very shy. The betta totally ignores him.

I use to have an apple snail a few years ago that was full of personality he would climb up the glass and jump off and "zoom" all over the place. He had other snails in the tank as well as a few more fish.

Should I get my blue snail some friends? I would most likely have to upgrade my tank, but would he be a little less shy then?

I think it's your subconscious telling you you need more inverts and a bigger tank...

heed the signs...

Careful with ascribing altruistic traits there. If you notice a snails behavior - they appear to do nothing more that propagate their species and eat like JPappy said. I have never seen any of my snails "socialize" and mainly see them just on a never-ending food search. My poor nerites continuously stack up sometimes 4 high, but since they aren't in brackish water the eggs never hatch.
