As for when 2012 will happened, well we could all be killed by a nova or gamma ray burst tomorrow, we cant do squat to stop it. Life on earth is here because we got so **** lucky its obnoxious. Everything in the universe can kill us, even things necessary to our existence (water, heat, gravity...)

OK how much of the ocean floor have we seen? How many fish species remain undiscovered by humans? How many places under the ocean have we never even thought about? A lot...

The universe is infinite, the Earth's ocean is finite. I think that alone disproves that statement.

How many planets have we explored? How many stars have planets? There are about 300 billion, give or take 100 billion, stars in our galaxy and there are believed to be hundreds of billions of galaxies in the universe. I think there is far more that we don't know about the universe than what we don't know about our oceans. Heck, if a moon orbiting Saturn has an ocean under it's icy surface, we would know vast amounts more about our own oceans than we would about that tiny speck in the universe.

Q

what i mean is we have seen those places but not under the sea. In any case i never said that will always be the case only that it is now. The universe is not infinite, its just getting bigger... we cant see everything in that either... Maybe i should have said that we know more about outer space then we do about our own planet? Going out is easy, all u have to deal with is cold and airless space. Under the ocean is much harder. Immense pressures and icy depths make the ocean very hard to study u know.

We have really gone :topic: so lets get back to the small matter of The End of the World.

Do you believe in it or not?

stay out of the subject of religion, but do you think it'll happen?

YOU EXPECT A PREDICTION THAT CAME FROM THE MAYAN RELIGION
to be discussed without people bringing their own religious views into the conversation AHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAAHAHHAHAHHA!!

Forgive me for finding this humourous to the extreme, respectfully I will not answer in this thread.

It will happen, just like Y2K did. Better start stocking up on canned goods and ammunitions.

Regardless, when the end of times comes, I plan on being ready to meet my maker (insert maker of your choice here).

ummm I hate to be the one to burst your bubble.

please see this web page

depending on how reliant computers and electronics are on old programming there will be issues.

also if computers did not have a ability to roll back dates Y2k would not have been so smooth

There are certainly species that have survived longer than only 200,000 years...not to mention when has any other species predicted their own extinction?
200,000 years is the blink of an eye,not long at all.

If something is constantly expanding, thus has no limit, it can easily be interpreted as infinite ;)

Exactly my point. What makes anyone so certain that "our time has come" when we're just a mere blip on the evolutionary timeline.

We also know more about Outer Space then we do about our own oceans, there could be an intelligent species (unlikely) in them and we would never know...
:hitting:

Did you ever see the movie "the Abyss"?

it could be happening right under our noses... Also I have seen shows on UFOs and USOs that are very interesting.
