I name some of my fish, depending on if they are distinguishable or not. I wouldn't say I'm anthropomorphizing though, to respond to beasts comment.. just rather I think it makes my referents easier to remember

And I have no problem with anthropomorphizing so long as we recognize it as such (she says in defense of naming her house plants... ahem).
I currently have an angelfish named Xerces (interestingly after the c++ library I had to "battle" as a research assistant.. no relation to the fish, I just liked the name). I also have a name for 4 of my 8 phantoms, as they were the first in my tank, and were very distinctive looking at the time:
-Richard (he was the biggest, hence "King Richard")
-Winky (short for the more formal "Winkin", of course -- we noticed once we got her home that she had only one eye)
-Blinkin
-Nod (okay, I can't tell these two apart in the slightest, but the names seemed necessary at the time

)
I have a panda cory named Bandit-- he's my lone survivor from a bunch I had awhile back (my lfs's never seem to stock these around here.. very weird).
I used to have a pleco named Mr. Pleco-pants (as you can plainly see.. no trait-capturing here! Haha!).
I named my apple snail Houdini after a disappearing act that resulted in me finding the poor traumatized creature UNDER my tank stand (kudos to my significant other who even suggested I look under there...).
I have a "jumbo" shrimp that I nicknamed "Prawn" (if you met him, you'd agree, trust me).
Finally I have a couple SAEs that I named Socks... because they look like argyle socks to me, and socks always come in pairs!
Yeah, I know, I'm a little nuts... but hey, so long as I'm okay with it.... :nilly:
