Ive never named a fish, it seems silly to me. Its not like I talk to them or anything... :p:

I am with flyfly I have never felt the desire to name any of my fish. I love my fish and I love to watch them as they relax me but the bond isnt the same as with a dog or a cat etc (not that I have one) i never talk to them and they cant hear me so I cant see the point in giving them names. I can well understand why people do though and I know my daughter has names for her goldfish.

i name my more "oddball" fish. like my ctenopoma acutirostre is named Sid. and i would name my Red honey gourami, but i haven't found a name that sounds right. but i don't think i'll ever name small schooling fish like my silvertip tetras, mostly because i can't tell them appart.

i don't name my fish, seems too hard with both coming up with a name and actually finding the correct fish out of an entire school. i don't name my two bettas either. name or no name, i am still attached to all of them.

i talk to my fish, too, but i'm a crazy pet lady! i used to name fishies when i was a kid, but just haven't lately. it is getting rather hard to keep saying "the older dojo loach with the freckles", though. i think i'm like RockabillyChick, name the oddballs.

I CAN tell all my fish apart, even the schoolers (but then I've never had more than 7 of any species at a time). But i still don't name them :(

My boyfriend tried to name our betta (now deceased) Betta Max, or Max for short, but it never stuck.

Right now the only named fish I have are "Minnie" and "Ricky" my dwarf puffers. Minnie is named for the favorite pomeranian of the Osbournes (you're supposed to say it like Sharon does, "Miiinnniie!"). Ricky is named after Ricky Ricardo. If I end up getting a third, a female, she'll be Lucille Ball or Lucy for short. I normally think it's dumb to name animals in pairs (Salt and Pepper, Laverne and Shirley), but it's somehow OK for dwarf puffers. They're just so cute!

Only one of ours that has a special designation is Betta "B" or Beta Betta, because he is the second betta we had. The first one died of a serious fungus infection about 5 days after we bought him (didn't know diddly about fish then). Anyhow, the first one was Alpha Betta :)

well my first 3 fish were named by the kids at work so there was nemo, dori and bruce.
the story behind bruce is funny because he was a tiny wee thing but he would pick a fish in his tank and harass it then one day it wouldnt be there, possibly eaten??? so we put him in my tank (got him off a friend) with fish twice his size. then we joked he was on a 12 step recovery plan like bruce the shark from finding nemo.
since then my family has named my fish
nod
buggy
pegasus
tiger
gannet guts
blush
