I remember having these honey comb like plastic lights reflector bought from Home Depot and cut them to fit and put them down before i pour the live sand in.... I remember it was for filtrating purpose... is it neccassary?

I have a 40 gallon tank
bought 120lbs of Caribsea Live Sand Type: Aragamax Sugar Sized #00930
to fill both of my new setup 40 and a 55... thinking 50lbs for the 40ga and 70lbs for the 55....

Well, something similar is used for building a plenum, but there's more to it that just the egg crate. You can put that down, then put in a base for rock to sit on, then the sand--this helps distribute the weight of the rock across the entire bottom of the tank instead of concentrating it in one location. It's not required, though, just a 'good idea' type thing.

oh ok gotcha... I have a full baseboard on the stand so I guess I'll skip this step... thanks for the clarification.
