CAE can absolutely be a time bomb waiting to happen but it seems to me that the success stories in keeping them in a community tank for life have involved giving them territory they can call their own, i.e., lots of plants, rocks etc. You might want to make the CAE the last fish that you add to the new tank for that reason. They go well with pearl gouramis or generally fish that can hold their own against an attack. You probably already know how cool they look when they get in the 5+ inch range. I like em' alot!
