Do you turn off filters when feeding?

I do turn my filters off while feeding the fish in all my tanks. I have tried leaving it on and the food does get sucked away quickly. I turn it back on once I see they have eaten all the food.

Whats a feeding ring?

a feeding ring is just a plastic circle about 4 inch across that floats with a suction cup, you put the food inside the ring and it stays right there and usually falls right in that area for easy cleaning if any missed food.

my rasboras devour it so fast when i put food in, then they bump the ring if their hungry..lol

my neons and xray tetras dont use the ring, the neons never go to the surface and the xrays love to "torpedo" the food on the surface but they balk when i use the ring as i think they might hit it on the attack run.

Apparently this is a feeding ring: http://www.sortprice.com/reviews/Nutrafin_Max_Feeding_Ring
I have no idea how that would work to keep the food in one area though.
Oh, I think it only works with floating food, so that it won't float around the rest of the tank. You put it inside of the ring and as long as it floats it will stay in the confines of the ring. That wouldn't help me since I don't like to let my fish food float.

i think the ring is so you dont get flakes all sticking round the water level in the tank and to stop it all getting washed under when it goes near your filters spray bar or whatever. i think i will get one cause it s***s me when half the food is wasted. my fish are fussy they wont eat it on the surface or the bottom it has to be floating around. only the 2 female guppies and the 2 angels will touch the surface. and no i leave my filters on and just push the spray bar under water till the food is gone.

I turn off my filters and only once in several years have I forgotten to turn them back on. But then again I am normally sitting there watching them eat...as it is a good time to see everyone with nobody hiding (unless not feeling well..which is good to learn)

As for the comment about snowstorm and then clear....part of that is because your filters are sucking up food as well as the fish. I don't like to waste or let tons of food get caught up in my filters to cause water problems.
