Do your corydoras recognize you?

That's like a weird version of "Don't feed the dog from the table."

True. With that said I have a very tightly controlled feeding regimen that someone who has a soft spot for personable fish might be inclined to overlook in order to see more of the corydora feeding frenzy.

Of course they do!
Every time I sit near my 5gal, my bichir comes out and does the food dance and will sit and watch me, but it won't do it for anyone else.
And my glass cats hate my boyfriend because he accidentally dropped the top for the tank into the tank...twice...they flip out when they see him, now.
Of course, if someone with a similar body shape went near the tank, they might do that, too...I don't know how well they can see...
I'm assuming that you have a much larger tank for the bichir when it reaches adulthood, correct? Don't want to be rude, just hoping that you realize that it will quickly outgrow that tank. As for the question, I'm not too sure about it. Looking at my cories, it does seem as though sometimes they look back, but I don't think that they're anywhere near as intelligent as many Pimelodids, and other fish such as bichirs and gars.

EDIT: Just read your above post, glad to see it. ;) That should be fine for it when it's older presuming that it's a smaller species such as Polypterus senegalus. And yes, it is fine to keep small specimens of larger species in small tanks as a grow out, and in fact, it is a bad idea to do anything other than that. If the bichir were in the 60 gallon now, it would likely have trouble finding food, and experience other problems that can lead to stress and even death.

:OT: BUT...........

How can you keep a bichir in a 5gallon??

You sure he isnt doing the let me out of this small tank dance? For a fish that can grow 12" long plus being in there with a pleco that is a very tight fit. I dont think theres any bichir that can be in that small of a tank. You should consider getting rid of him and getting a different fish unless you plan on getting a bigger tank fairly soon.
I'm sorry, but that makes very little sense. As I said in my above post, it is fine, and even better, to keep a small fish in a small tank and move it to larger quaters as it grows.
Again, I don't mean to be rude, I'm just telling it the way that it is.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and 12" is assuming that it's a Senegal bichir (or a retropinnis, but this species is very rare)... there is one species of bichir that can grow to 40" (Polypterus endlicheri congicus)!

Good points about keeping the fish in smaller tank then moving when its big enough, but I wasnt aware that it was a small bichir until she posted that it was small after my inital comment. My first impression was that it was a decent size which i was wrong about.

About the size, her sig says its a Senegal Bichir so i looked up its length on google.
