Everyone always talks about how doglike they are, I've never owned one so I wouldn't know. Just curious:)

When I had oscars they would eat out of my hand and let me pet them or lift them out of the water for inspection.
There aren't many species you can say that about. Now, do keep in mind they get LARGE, if you're contemplating a new companion.

Oh no no, no more critters for me. I'm in the process of getting rid of a lot of my fish actually lol. I searched youtube and found a bunch of videos of owners petting their oscars-how sweet!

Mine "bites" me, goes out of the water about 5" inches to get at my hands so I don't "pet" him. But I do throw food and giggle alot.

Breaking News:
Aquaria Central mod gets into fight with oscar fish. Sources say it started when msjinkzd threw a piece of food at the fish. The now angry fish, then jumped out of the tank and tried to attack her!

We will continue to update you as we get more information.

Gus lets me touch him, but i wouldn't exactly say he sits still and lets me rub his belly  given the opportunity he'd probably try to take the fingers right off my hand though, lol!

his tankmate, Chuck (paratilapia polleni), allowed me to hold him upright in the water without any struggle when he was ill with a swim bladder issue not too long ago. he's perfectly healthy now and allows me to touch him the same way as Gus, but won't sit still for 'petting'.

When we had oscars we used to pet their noses.

My Oscars are not people friendly, they just want food ALL the time.
