I came up with the idea of mixing 4 different foods together to acheive full results. I will see how it works out but the first day, which is today. I notice an imediate improvement in their behavioral activity. I mixed cichlid gold, wardley cichlid pellets, herbivorous pellets, and cichlid staple.

Do you guys already do this?

If not i will keep you updated.

I like the idea because of the fact that i don't have to do anything because just feeding them the premixed pellets means that they will not always get all of one type of food at one time.

I get flake food from a guy that makes it locally - brine shrimp, beefheart, spirulina - i've tried mixing it up - the fish who do eat flakes do eat it...

Im not sure if its exactly beneficiary to your fish if you mix the foods......this **improved** behavior is probably them being excited about a new food.

My son feeds a blend of peas, head on shrimp, spirlina, fish vitamins(?), brewers yeast all blended which he mixes with knox gelatin and freezes on a cookie sheet then bags into sandwich bags. This is very reasonable priced food (after buying the vitamins) and lasts forever. He has 9 tanks of cichlids and makes a tray of food a month, he also feeds finely chopped beef heart, from a local aboitor (sic) that raises their own beef without hormones, dried krill, blood worms and cichlid pellets, these guys grow at a remarkable rate and the colours they show are fantastic! He also has made his own melafix and primafix, so for pennies he maintains 2 liter bottle of each and always has some on hand. If only he could get a recipe for Prime, LOL this hobby would cost him next to nothing.

Home-made Melafix and Primafix sounds great - I don't suppose you have the recipe to that?

second that.
id like to know how to make some good food for them as well.

I do somthing like that for my fry. I mix crumbled up flakes with freeze dried brine shrimp in an old food container.

For Discus

For my discus i have just started to use Beefheart, Frozen daphnia, powdered brine shrimp, blood worms and a few flakes. Their colours have improved greatly and their behaviour has changed, i.e. not so timid now. They really go for the new feed, whereas it would take them ages to even sniff around their old food.

Try mixing beefheart with shrimp (the kind we eat) and good flakes - makes the discus go after it faster than beefheart alone. I read some recipe that recomends spinach and banana... i mean BANANA???? anyone ever try that?

I make my own food for all my fish. I have discus, angels, rams, cories, bristlenose, sae, red peacock cichlids, bumblebee cichlids, severum, otos, just got more bn & ports. They fight over this food...It is a beef heart mixture. I followed the orginial recipe to start with then found some more recipes and combined them...yes bananas I added all kinds of veggies and fruits as well as white fish, shrimp, vitamins and reg fish food... also do mix store bought foods also and my babies love that as well
