I've noticed recently that I have had pearling in my 10g planted tank, but the bubbles are only noticable on the patches of BBA I have on some of my plant leaves. I do not believe it is the result of the airstone, because when the tank lights turn on in the morning, there are no bubbles on the BBA or leaves. The only time I see it is towards the end of the day when I get home just before lights out. Is the BBA acting like velcro and catching the O2 bubbles? The only thing that has changed in the tank is that I did give away nearly all of my guppies. All that is left is one adult male and about 5 or 6 small fry. I also did a major gravel cleaning and 50% water change. The lighting is 2x20watts of CF lighting. Water temp is about 76F. Ferts are N and K every other day, traces 2 times a week, Phosphorus once a week, and Excel for carbon once a day. The plants are various aponogetons, mostly the grow your own bulbs from walmart.

BBA is not a real algae--so should not pearl.

So it must be the actual plants that are doing it and the bubbles get caught in the bba strands, right?

Or filter output.

That's what I would think, but the bubbles are minimal at lights on, and noticably thicker at lights out.

It's odd, I noticed the same thing during a BBA outbreak at one point. Since it doesn't photosynthesize, it shouldn't pearl though.

Im going to take the side of that it dose pearl, just for the fact that in my tank i have a few small patches that pearl.... but technically... maybe it shouldn't... lol...
