Does Excel Harm Shrimp or Snails

I ended up using it in the small tank with snails but not in the bigger tank with shrimp. It killed an Anarchis plant but wiped out the Algae. The Microsword and the Crypt Wendtii seem fine as do the fish and snails. I did notice one of the snails has some shell damage but I suspect that may have to do with his diet and the water hardness.

To anyone who's lost an invert from this; How are you dosing? I've been dosing excel at the recommended amounts for weeks and not had any issues with either my ghost shrimp or my brigs.

The problem is that excel contains additives that are toxic to shrimp, snails, etc. In low doses it isn't harmful. But also beware. If it is used for prolonged periods of time, even in low doses, the toxins can build up in your tank. The toxins are absorbed by silicone, driftwood, and other substances, and are very difficult to eliminate.

I've been using it at recommended dosage and not had problems. My BBA was out of control, and I'd tried everything else -- even broke the whole tank down and bleached everything. I think the problem was too few nutrients for the live plants to grow and out-compete the BBA. Now that the BBA is fading fast, I'll probably do a blackout for five days to get the rest of it gone and cut the Excell.
