I am thinking of getting some female bettas to put in my ten-gallon tank, and am doing research now. I don't want to have a bunch of babies to find homes for. If they don't breed, will it negatively affect them?

no,it wont hurt them not to breed, they pass eggs after a while but its possible for them to get eggbound, but i have never that or any other problems with females that i havent bred.

no, it shouldn't hurt them at all. If she produced eggs and they didn't get released, her body will just absorb them. Protein, yum :)

I guess there's always the chance that there could be complications, like if the infertile eggs developed infections inside her. The chance is very low, but it probably exists. I guess that's why it's considered a health benefit to get your dogs and cats fixed. But it's not an option yet to spay and neuter fishies ;)

no it doesn't hurt them. I have never bred one of my female bettas and she seems reluctant to even produce eggs so, unless you have a male nearby u may not even have to worry about eggs. my other betta, whom i have bred, has been about the same since i bred her and too much breeding can hurt them so, you're safe. :)

lol, it negatively effects them when they do breed. male **** near kills them (sometimes does)

it is my understanding that the female will not become ?gravid? until she is introduced to a male that has built his bubble nest, then she hides, visiting sometimes, and gets them eggs going.

after 3-5 days she allows him to visciously mate her.

they like it rough. lol

i may be worng, please correct me if so, this is just what i rmemebr reading.

yeh weird
my female lives by herself and she is like totally swollen full of eggs
before she used to pop out eggs once in a while like there were too many, she made her own nest and put the eggs in there like a male would.
now shes still super fat but doesnt have her own nest anymore

docta proved me wrong
