I saw an ad that stated black media (forget if foam or what) was ideal for bacteria growth. Does color matter?

no. bacteria will colonize everything. the only things that affect bacteria growth are water movement (meaning 02 and nutrients becoming avaliable to them) and surface area.

Ah ha!!

Checking out my buddies That Fish Place catalog and in the Bio-Chem Stars (pg. 35) ad, it states:
"Black color allows nitrifying bacteria to grow best."

Not that that means anything. Just wanted to prove myself sane!:)
