Hi there, just looking for opinions on whether this is ich? So far only on one fish, and the fish has only been in the tank about 2 weeks so not sure if they’ve always been there or not.

I did buy some Tetra Life Guard and put the first days worth of tabs in. Sadly after reading up on it more I learned it’s not great for snails and shrimp which I have 4 and 2 of respectively- so needless to say I’m not continuing with it.

Have started the process of raising the temp, but curious if there’s anything else I can do- or if this even appears to be ich and perhaps I’m just being a worry wart.

Thanks!AF0B7EF6-99D1-461F-9709-786F5541E85E.jpeg

Please clean the glass to remove the white dots on it. Then retake a photo and post it. It is hard to tell from the above pic.

The spots appear to be in the fins and not on the fins so can you confirm that?

Ich looks like small grains of salt sprinkled on the body of the fish.

I can’t tell for certain on the Molly if they are in or on, however my tetras also appear to have white specs on them as well :/. I do now have my tank up to 29/30 on the opposite side of the heater which I slowly did over the past 24 hours so hoping this will help.78FBD898-B8E6-4304-A6C4-59C87693354E.jpegF41688E1-0E67-420A-8A70-151B1AC5A880.jpeg

Our Gourami and Guppy so far look perfectly fine which also gives me hope that perhaps it’s not ich, but still cautious.E1DD79CB-E14E-424C-A19B-BF0EB7E243D0.jpeg4D44BC7D-CE98-46D2-A2A8-4EC630868D3B.jpeg

Yes, to me that looks exactly like ich. You need to choose a treatment, high heat is NOT something I would choose alone. It speeds up the ich lifecycle but, unless scary high for fish. doesn't really kill it & may kill your fish due to lack of oxygen at high temps...& the ich that isn't killed by high enough temps...there's supposedly heat resistant ich...

I dunno about that, I'm old school & prefer a dye treatment like methylene blue or Victoria green...but I didn't try it with inverts that I wanted to survive. Table salt is also an option, but not 1 I've tried. I do know if you go the salt route you need to slowly ramp up to a full dose, keep it there for several days & slowly remove it. Salt, or any treatment, may damage your plants or inverts. To me fish are more important that either of those...

You need to choose an option & stick to it for the long haul. Water changes can help remove ich but you need to get the effective treatment level back up ASAP.

Good luck & let us know what TX you choose

Hopefully the start of good news! Our Molly is now 100% white spot free on her tail fin. We did loose 1 snail the after the single dose of the Tetra Life Guard but the increased temp (30f) seems to be doing the trick so far. All but one Tetras spots have also cleared, one Tetra still has 1 single spot.

You need to look at the ich lifecycle. Basicly it's on the fish, then falls off into the substrate. Then it becomes free swimming in the water column & reinfects the fish. Don't think you're done yet.
