Okay, finishing touches of the dog head.
I left it in the water until it got really cold outside, and the water went from cloudy to clear. This was a sign that most of the bacteria were gone, and it wasn't going to be doing much more. So I took it out, and rinsed it. Most of the teeth had fallen out of the sockets, so I had to be careful not to lose them.
It looked really good after a rinse, and putting the teeth back in. I did not glue them in yet, as I still wanted to whiten the skull a little.
Rinsed and ready to be whitened.
After letting it dry a couple days, it was ready for a hydrogen peroxide bath. This will whiten the bone, but also decalcify it if it is left in too long. I could probably leave a skull this size in for a few days without a problem. However, I like the bone to retain a bit of the natural color, rather than the "museum white" that some people like, so I left it in for around 24 hours.
In the bath.
Finished, whitened skull.
