Dojo Loach Problems

So, would malachite green help?
well, if he just created extra slime coat from temp shcok, maybe it will go away if his temp remains stable, but don't take my word for it, i'm not used to these sorts of problems.

I did a 10% water change and he is already acting alot better- swimming around and being his comical little self. So hopefully the extra mucus will go away.

In Alaska you've never had temperature problems? Wow. I'm amazed.... LOL

it will go away pretty quickly as long as the temp stays stable. vaccum or net out any chunks though, because they will decompose and release a boatload of ammoina.
there is proabaly a bit of fungal tissue inthere, so i would add a 1/2 dose of melafix or marycyn 2 to help

wha? it's warmer here than it is where you are now! and of course, if you live up here you have to have excellent central heating.

Okay. I'll do that, and I'll make sure the temperature doesn't get that low again. I would hate to lose my cute little dojo loach. :)

even if the ambient air temp is in the 50's, that's why you have heaters in the aquarium. anyway, most resources i've seen concerning dojos say they should be kept in more temperate settings (66-72) rather than tropical temps. a rapid temp swing from 78 to 72 to 78 might be harmful, but a slow change over 8-10 hours with only 6 degrees of difference shouldn't cause such a reaction. i don't think the temp is the problem.

guppygirl, just so you know, my dojos often spaz out and kind of go into convulsions. I thought my first one was epileptic or something, until the second one I got also did the same thing. They'll thrash around on the gravel (making quite a racket, too, I might add) for a second and then freeze. So they're quirky that way.

But the excess mucus and fungus stuff don't sound good. I wish you luck and hope he pulls through. They are such cute fish!

My guy will give yours a kiss for good luck!

Thanks, I do love my dojos so. They're my babies. My older one used to love being petted and would actively seek out my hand. But now that I got him a buddy, they're both kinda wild.

Sorry to get off-topic.
