Has anyone ever seen really small (about 3" long) grey freshwater fish that are gray and shaped just like dolphins. I have only seen them one time in 45 years and cannot seem to locate where to get them or even their name. Hav e recieved lots of input from others referring to elephant nose and the like but none so far look like the ones I saw?

No

These were really playful and had balls in the tank for them to play with. They looked more like a bottlenose dolphin than the elephant nose everyone is referring me to.

My LFS had stocked them once...called them Freshwater Dolphins...I'll find out some more info for you tommorow...

That's it

It's the freshwater dolphin (mormyrus tapirus) that I'm looking for? Does anyone know where to get them? :bowing:

We get them in rarely, $36 a piece is what we sell them for...they are a good size fish, prolly 6-7 inches when we get them...and the funny thing is, there's nothing to be found on them (at least, thats what the manager and I found). We should be getting some in this week, I'll let you know what's up.

I found some info on them Here

also more here

It seems that they are in the same family as the elephant nose, and the baby whale...they are Mormyridae's and are electrogenic.
