Dosing Excel for algae too risky?

here is what i do. it might not be safe for your vals or other excel sensitve plants.

the directions on the bottle say that on the first dose or after a major water change to use 5ml for every 10 gallons of water (for you it would be about 20ml). i double that (40ml for you). now the catch, do a 50% water change. when the tank is half full, dose the 40ml. give it about 5-10 minutes and then fill the tank. every day after dose 20ml. should take a week or less before you're algae free

I would go to your local Pharmacy and get an oral syringe.Put the Excel in that, then shoot it right at the algae on the plants. This will get the Excel where it needs to be,and may save your Vals. Vals will melt with Excel, but they will come back if they have not completely melted away. Shoot the algae with the syringe for at least a week. It may take longer. Dose the tank with Excel as directed on the bottle as well.

if you want to do it this way, the best method is to turn off all of the water flow (filters, powerheads) and wait till all of the water has stopped circulating. inject excel slowly so as if the stuff stays concentrated around the plants before it disperses around the tank. give it about 5 minutes then turn the filter back on
