Im having a hard time dealing with algae in my 5gal. I was wondering if i could keep an otto in there with the 2dps i already have. Shrimp never last long enough and snails are generally picked at until they die then they're eaten.

I have wisertia and sword and some dwarf saggiteria. The sword is easy to clean, but the wisteria and sag is impossibly hard. Brown Algae is begining to take over the tank, what should i do?

A Pleco or an Otto should be fine in the tank...it was fine for my Fig 8s until i realized the Fig 8s were brackish.....or get an UBER snail..one of the big ones

plecos grow to over 12", not exactly a great fish for a 5gal. And...*sigh*...snails dont last, regardless of the size.

i might go with the otto like you said though, thanks. Im just worried about agression from the DPs

I would not go with an otto, firstly im not sure how good they do in brackish water, secondly they are schoolers so i think it would be quite nervous with the 2 dwarf puffers ecspecially seeing as they can be quite nippy at times.

Many folks keep ottos w/dwarves. BTW Megatron, dwarf puffers are strictly FW fish.

the only thing is ottos do not do well in smaller settings and have trouble adjusting sometimes. They also like to be in groups, a 5 gallon is just too small for a group of otos.

not only is a 5 gallon too small for a pleco, plecos generally cannot thrive in BW conditions, they are pretty sensitive to salt. Medicating is one thing but long term, a no-no.

Bown algae requires silicates to build their "shells". You can try pre-treating the water used for changes and make-up in a separate container with phosphate-binding resins, which also remove silicates. But then you may have to dose phosphate in the tank to maintain the plants.

I thought dwarf puffers were brackish, assuming so from previous posts, and the forum this is in...
