Dragon Fish

Note that the first ref cited above suggests using aquarium salt, which is not suitable for any brackish water fish. Marine mix should be used to prepare the water for the dragon goby as for other brackish and marine fish. High specific gravuty does not seem to be required, light brackish seems to do, 1.003 - 1.008.

Freshwater fish are not suitable tankmates under the proper water conditions for these fish. That info is mistaken as well.

hey, man. what's going on? i've got a dragonfish that i keep in a completely freshwater tank at about 80-83 deg.s. he lives with a baby aquatic turtle, a baby clown knife fish, a striped raphael, and a juvenile needlenose gar. (the snails don't really count being as they just puff around and don't interact) the only thing that is specifically for him in the tank is a small glass decorative bottle that only he can fit in. it gives him a place to feel secure, while he can still be seen. i've taken a few pictures, although they aren't the best quality, but would be glad to share them if you're interested.

Hey There,

Like some have posted previously, the Dragonfish is a brackishwater fish. They reach sizes of about 2+ feet so would need a fairly large tank. They are not aggressive like some may think. LoL they look pretty mean, but they are shy and can be harrassed if housed with semi- aggressive and aggressive tank mates. They like to burrow and hide in the substrate, so a fine substrate like sand would be ideal as gravel can sometimes scratch them up and the wounds could get infected.
They tend to be a little territorial towards their own species.
They have tiny sharp teeth that you can see if you look real close. Really neat looking :p:
They are filter feeders meaning they will sift through the water and substrate for food. Their eyesight is next to non-existant poor things so when you feed them, try to have the food land as close to them as possible.
Like RTR said, you need to use Marine salt mix to create a brackish setup, not aquarium salt which is used mostly just for stress reducing and remedies for infections.
Good luck with everything! :dance2:
