What does wood (driftwood) do to the water in my tank? does it make the water hard or soft? and any clue on what fish and live in thoes conditions besides bettas?Thanks

Some can make your water soft buti think it goes away after the Tannins are done being leeched out of it.
I think driftwood will tend to lower pH because it is (slowly) decaying, and it is a continuing process.
Hardness, on the other hand, is a measure of the numbers of mineral ions in water, and I don't think this is directly affected by driftwood
