hiya,I have driftwood in my tank. I would like to know how to go about n get some moss growing on it. Firstly is it advisable n secondly can I get some from rivers. Is there any prior treatment needed befor putting it into the tank, like the precautions needed for driftwood.thanks N take care

just tie it down with cotton thread or fish line. as it goes it attaches its self to the wood. as for the driftwood make sure its from a clean source of water. i would also boil it and let it soak.

I would not trust DW from streams. They can have insects, bacteria, chemicals, ect. If you REALLY do, try to boil the wood for a while. Take out and scrub well, and boil again.

I took moss from my back yard and it came with a free bug problem!

better question is where are you from, and what species of moss is it, and photo to id if you dont know.
I really really don't think that anybody, on this site or otherwise, is going to be able to ID a moss with a few pictures. It would be hard to figure out the moss type even if they had the moss to look at and examine in person. There are many many different types of moss. To try and ID one that may not even be in the hobby would be either very difficult or impossible.
Play it safe and just get some java moss. Break it up into a few little clumps and sprigs and attach to various pieces of wood etc. A little goes a long way.
