Driftwood preparation question

Ok question. Is this a chlorinated swimming pool? Cause that might pose a bit of a problem.:eek3:

Salt water pool with electrolytic chlorine generation.

I leave the wood in the sun to dry out a bit for a day or two and chlorine will gas off pretty quickly from experience. I've done a lot of marine algae culture and in turn rotifer culture for feeding baby snapper, we always chlorinate sea water via sodium hypochlorite to sterilize it, followed by heavy aeration. 24 hours later the water is good to go into the relevant cultures and doesn't bother the algae or rotifers in the slightest. In comparison the concentrations in the pool are much lower and after wood has spent a day or two in the sun, it's not really something I'd worry about.

As for the salt concentrations in pool water it's certainly not an issue, pool water SG is pretty low and by the time the wood has drained off the amount of additional salt in the tank isn't enough to budge a hydrometer. What is there would be quickly reduced to trace levels via regular water changes.

When my water turned tea-color, it killed 3/6 of my shrimp...

Of course, they were new...

I have a piece prepping now with the hot water over and over method. Any particular type of vinegar for the followon step you mentiond?
