what is that wood called that almost looks honeycombed or like a vines twisting together, looks like a little log you can kind of see through ?

Are you talking about grapevine? If so, that's not really wood, but a vine, and shouldn't be used in aquaria.

not sure about the honeycomb but the vines twisting together sounds like grape vines and as irishspy already said those are not aquarium safe.

I believe it's cholla, not for aquariums AFAIK.
