I like to look at how many post people have made here, when considring buying. (I've only bought two things so far, but its a start)

The only problem with online driftwood is you don't know what your getting in 12-15 inches, it could be all branch and twig. I learned this because at the different LFS I would have to wait for a new shipment to get something decant that was girthy like the photo on the online stores. You might get lucky and not get a long twig but I like selecting my pieces if I'm going to pay $12 & $20 because I see allot of packaged leftovers at the LFS that I would never buy. Sight unseen wood doesn't work for me.

If you "know him" and it personable that great and a big difference then a web page photo.
 
Hahah funny you should say that, I'm just about to buy like 12 plants from him :) I'll get some from him...
