Driftwood

Hi guys sorry for all the questions im a virgin on the tropical front

Ive just been and got myself a lovely bit of driftwood from my local aquatics centre now ive put it in a bowl full of boiling water as i read it needs soaking to get all that yellow muck out of it!
How long do i soak it for and should i change the water its soaking in periodically?

It will depend on what type of wood it is and if there was any pre-treating of it before by whoever sold it to the LFS.

Usually when you boil it and the water stays clear, it may be done. Some woods take months to years to fully be tannin free. I would boil it a few times, then put it in. If it discolors the water, do water changes and run carbon.

Yellow muck!! Bite your tongue.. lol.. I LOVE that color
Definately change the water at least twice a day if you are bucket soaking it you don't want it getting smelly and stagnent, boil it a bunch of times as many as you can.

The first lot of water i put in went yelow very quickly so i left it half hour and ive just changed for new water which is definately a weaker shade of yellow now
