Driftwood

Several options:

1) Weigh it down with some slate you screw on.
2) Keep on soaking it in hopes that it'll sink (probably not if it wasn't labled as sinking wood)

Where can I get slate? Can I just screw it on with a regular drill bit and screws? Or self tapping or drywall or whatever? How do I do it?

I just used some rock to weigh my driftwood down. After a while if you remove the rock, some diftwood will just stay down.

You can get slate pretty cheap at your local landscaping store, or at Home Depot. I got a 14" by 14" piece for $3.99 USD. You can cut it with a wet-dry saw or just break it by dropping it flat side down on some cement. Just watch out for the edges, they can be sharp! File them down with sandpaper...

Get stainless steel screws from a hardware store or use aquarium sealant to attach it to the slate (wood must be dry). I get slate from the landscape supplier, gravel/stone yards, or even from some LFS.
