drilled vs canister filter for 90g

1) Thats a floater thats sticking out as its going to be removed when the tank is going in to be sanded down and cleaned once i decide to plug in the holes or not.

2) No the plumbing wasn't provided.

The reason why I had a typical set up is that I didn't want my clown killies to be sucked in or my inverts especially now that I have the dwarf orange crays- CPO as I wanted to stock this tank with many tiny fish- instead of few big fish

If this is not possible, i'll just have em plugged in and buy an canister filter that's able to handle the tank of this size.

MIS: Please excuse me bu I am out of ideas and/or suggestions.

aww! NUTS, perhaps ill just have the guy plug it all up and ill just deal with the canister filter. perhaps there is another way I could do this i just need to figure it out somehow

Thanks jones for the help and time/effort you put in this thread. Really appericate it.

Could you use a screen, instead of a sponge. Shouldn't slow the flow down too much, but should keep little guys out. Set it a couple inches away from the drain so the flow is not fast right at the face of the screen.

that tank may have been a custom marine set up..
the float is a auto top off.. and judging from the elevation this tank may have been a fuge or something for a large set up.

not a big deal from the looks of it.

the bottom fitting was IMO a connection to another tank. the upper fitting(smaller one) may have been a return of some sort.(all speculation of course)

bottom line the set up is still usable.

plug off the larger lower fitting..use the other larger fitting as the overflow and the smaller fitting adjacent as the return. cover the top off fitting.

I've never used a sump wet/dry filter, but have used Eheim Classic canisters before.

From the looks of the bulkhead fittings on the tank, this setup would solve the problem of priming the canister after cleaning.

Come to think of it, I never had much problem, but some people apparantly do have difficulty restarting the siphon...anyway, it looks as if with this arrangement, the air would naturally just bubble out of the canister when the double taps were opened.
