Drinking Soda as a CO2 Source in Aquarium

Hi Friends,

One of the LFS guy here said that I can use the normal Drinking Soda as a source of Co2 in the planted aquarium. He asked me to just pour a cup of Soda in to the tank - just wanted to know if this is true / will work ?

Kindly guide me...

are we talking dr pepper, coke, sprite, etc? if so, thats ridiculous.
 
uh, your LFS guy told you it was okay to pour soda into your tank? I should think it would be disastrous.
 
I assume he means plain soda (club soda)... its basically just carbonated water.

It would add CO2 to the tank, and it is inexpensive. But I dont think it would add a LOT of CO2

couldnt hurt- and there is nothing in it that would harm the fish (its clear, and has no flavor/sugar of any kind) its just C02 and drinking water
 
oh, well in that case, wouldn't it just be the single shot of CO2 and that would be it?

yeah.. it would "airate" the water with CO2 a bit if you were to pour it near a filter/powerhead.

you would have to do it daily to have any effect-- but as I said there is nothing on the ingredients (looking right now) that would hurt anything.. and it does contain LOTS of CO2.. so it seems plausible


BUT... DO NOT pour normal soda pop in there lol.... that would be bad

yeah.. it should be fine-- like I said im not sure how well it will work-- but it definately wont hurt anything
 
aww man...and here I was thinking how cool it would be to share a beer with the fish:(
