Drinking straws as a bio-filter?

It was right at my first of playing with plexi-glass, so it got ugly with the glue.
My first time with plexi too and I know what you mean about the glue,, there IS a learning curve. BUT exterior wise a dual action sander and different grits of paper ending with 400 you can buff that nasty right out of it with buffing compound and a good buffer.

Amaozonlee- That is a huge under cabinet filter system, the photo says it all for me

It sits behind the tank (pic below)

THANKS for the kind comments,,, like you said it EVOLVED over time to my current needs,,,,,,,

which were more space in the living room,, hung my plasma TV over the tank to save space,, with the filter behind the tank now it looks much better.

So now I can watch fish and TV at the same time Ha Ha!!

My point here was not to show off my filter but to explain that filters are quite simple if you just think of the before mentioned facts and ANYBODY can build an excellent filter without even making a visit to the petshop,,,,,well you do need a good pump though.

The whole idea to the store bought filter is "what will sell" then come the thought of making work right but packaging and marketing are the first consideration,,,,,,, in other words the "Gimmick"

Ever wonder why surface fishing lures have all the pretty colors on the TOP of the lure? (think about it,, it will come)

I'll get some pics of the "Tea jug" filter and post them later.

PLUS,,,, Its fun to experiment!!!!!

Still I understand that some people don't have time to experiment,,, and to those of you that don't I am sooo sorry for that and hope you see what it's all about soon.
(take time for yourself, one day you'll wonder where it all went)

Holy crap man, that is a ridiculously huge filter. nice lookin though.

Gives me a few ideas for a filter idea I have been working on for a tank i've been building for almost a year...

holy crap that's hugenificent... daddy likey! good job on the diy hidey under the tv and behind the tank idea. looks as if you don't have to worry about power outage floods either... very nice!

Let's try to keep the topic about drinking straws as a bio-filter.:)

I ave seen people use drinking straws, tho they were mainly used as mechanical media kinda like Ehfimech.
But I'm sure bio activity would occur.

Amaozonlee, That is an awesome build! you should do a diy sump journal!
One thing is how hard is the maintenance? being it behind the tank and all...

plastic shot gun wads they use to reload shells are very popular in my area for wet dry filters they are cheap and you get them in huge bags.
