Dropsy, Curing Success?

I've had some goldfish that had dropsy before, and I don't think I've ever successfully cured it. But start the treatment right away, and change water often! The medicine is not only the important thing to curing any disease, but good water quality is just as important.

From what I've read when dropsy is accompanied by protruding scales it is usually fatal. Any attempts for treatment can only help and not make the situation more grave. I wish you the very best keep us posted on how you make out.

It's just odd...... He's not lethargic and he's hungry as a wolf still. He responds to me the same always poking at the top when I come close.

It's been two days since the pine cone scales and 3 since the bloated belly.

I'm trying Furan2............

I don't have bettas, but I've had goldfish and tetras that have had dropsy and treated with Furan 2 but unfortunately with no success. Mind you that was before I knew just how important the water quality was, so that may have also contributed to the unsuccessfulness of the treatment.

Good Luck

I think this is a good sign......... His bloating in his belly has gone down, but the scales are still pine coned just not as bad as they were before.

In my 30 plus years of having fish, I only had Dropsy once and the guppy was put down.

Good luck with your treatments, I hope it works. But also do regular water changes once your fish is cured. A clean tank goes a long way in helping your fish's health. :dog:

Dropsy curing???

:fairy: Keeping my fingers crossed. Jeter's dropsy seems to be resolving but I'm not sure. I'm giving him Maracyn Two. His belly looks like it's starting to shrink. Plus, he was never lethargic... he stayed spunky and always wiggled for me. However, he did lose his appetite but that seems to have returned also. I have to give him smaller portions of his pellets as he does have trouble taking them whole. Is this curing??? Or am I getting my hopes up? It's been two weeks. I didn't realize last week that he had dropsy, as I didn't know why he was bloated. He's my first betta therefore, I researched why he was bloating and discovered it must have been dropsy. I've also been using the Epson salt too. He seemed to pinecone a little bit, but not what I expected. He seems to be doing very well. Any other suggestions?
