i would think friction from better flow would help diffuse the bubbles as long as they can't go too far fast. think of coffee... without stirring not so much sugar and creamer dissolves completely... even though it's heated (which creates greater dissolution).
the water will slow no matter what the obstacle is and it's great you have a pre-filter (as long as it doesn't clog) but muck builds up in filters regardless and the narrower the exit hole is through the sponge the faster it's going to clog regardless. keeping it even a hair off that hose barb at the end will eliminate that issue.
