Duckweed killer =]

do me a favor and delete my reference to him, then. EDIT: do him the favor...

honestly, i really don't get the issue. it works... and works better than any other method i've seen mentioned anywhere. but to each his own.

I'm sure the shopvac method works well, I haven't tried it because I don't have a shopvac readily available. A blackout might work pretty well also, but either way, this is supposed to be a spray it and forget it type approach, hopefully in time it will be tweaked enough to be reliable. The only drawback I'm coming up with so far is what to do with all the dead plant matter, so an obvious water change is due at the end of the treatment period.

What does it do to the oxygen exchange? Looks like it almost produces a mat (more so than alive duckweed) over the surface. Does this still allow for air exchange through the water's surface?

Also, is this going to be invertebrate safe?

For my duckweed control I put a powerhead on the tank, blowing hard one side to the other across the surface, then scoop it out when trapped on one side.

Good question. I'm attempting to see how well it actually kills the duckweed first and then I'm going to manipulate it and see whether it will do the same thing with a circulating tank.

Probably, but I guess it'll be left up to testing. If the tests come up iffy then I will probably have to remove any fish/inverts prior to treatment, which would be annoying =[

That's the way I usually do it also

I have sucked tiny fish up with regular airline tubing before...no way I am trying the shop vac method! However, a yogurt container works beautifully :) It also skims up all the surface gunk.

I have duckweed in a few tanks, never has gotten out of control for me, but my tanks are low light and fertilized very infrequently, so I imagine that helps.

looks good
i also want to know the effects on other live plants...........
