Duckweed question

Duckweed is a monster. I all but scooped my tank clean of the stuff...3 weeks later it completey covered the top again.

That being said, it does make the fish a bit more relaxed, since it provides cover. And it is decent at taking up extra nuetrients that could possibly feed algae.

And to answer the op question, that will be enough.

i dont care for it, the only use i see is if you add ferts to a planted tank, its great at soaking up all that extra E before algae can get it. that being said i would much rather have a different kind of floating plant, like water lettuce, it has long beautiful root systems and looks amazing, great for open tops
 
I loved the stuff when I had goldfish. It was a central part of their diet. I grew it in a little 2 gallon tank with a aerator to keep the water moving a bit.

I got a little bit in my big tank with some plants when I set it up. Rather than hunting for it I just increased the surface agitation. It disappeared quickly.

Letting it grow, although it looks like the hornwort is out-competing it in the tank
 
A little competition is always healthier than none at all. There may be some allelopathy in play here.
 
I go to the local pond and get 25gal bout every month and put it in my pond and tanks. All of my guys seem to love it. Can hear them feeding all might. As a side benefit the nitrates go down too. I love Duck weed great stuff.
 
I might throw it into a wine glass pico I'm growing in my windowsill as well
 
Bought more, hoping to start experimenting with it.

Question to those who have duckweed: Mine came in the mail in a small baggy in an envelope. It was dried out a bit, but I went ahead and added it to a few tanks and it already looks a bit better. Think it will be alright?
 
The stuff is apparently like Wolverine in that it's virtually impossible to kill.
