Duckweed - Useful?

i have it in some of my tanks and when it grown to much i net it out and dump it in my 90gallon goldie tank and they have it gone in a few days,..lol

if you overflow your tanks frequently duckweed goes away.....though thatis probably not a recommended method, LOL

Its also edible by people, its supposed to have a very peppery taste.

Well... there is world hunger solved.

If every aquarist shipped their excess duckweed to countries in need no-one need go hungry again.

I've always loved duckweed! I don't have any now, but I'm sure it'd do fine in my goldfish tank. Strangely enough all the plants people say they DO eat, they don't, and all the plants people say they DON'T eat, they do. My goldfish are weird :screwy:.

We had duckweed when I was little in our goldfish tank. I actually ASKED my mom to buy some for the tank. It's the only plant that we could ever get to grow. Maybe I'm weird, but I like duckweed.

^ I agree I like the stuff. I've been growing it for a while now to feed my goldfish. I use a net about once a week to skim off most of the stuff on the top of my the two 10 and one 15g tank. It's been producing a mass about the size of a baseball every week.

The goldfish love it and devour it within a day or two.

I hate it.

Dont know how i got it in the first place, but I hate it.

It will take over your tank. I have it covering 3, 20 gal tanks, and it was covering my 125. It grows so fast that you cant keep up with it.

If you only have a small amount, then skim it off or it will multiply faster than rabbits.
